Mukhtar Babayev to Meet with Members of the COP29 NGO Coalition
“The COP29 President-Designate, Mukhtar Babayev, has responded positively to our invitation to meet with members of the COP29 NGO Coalition,” announced Ramil Iskandarli, Chairman of the Board of the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan. He mentioned that there is only one organization from Azerbaijan in this coalition, which is the umbrella organization, the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan. “All other members of the coalition are over 200 foreign NGOs from 50 countries. Among them are several umbrella organizations that unite hundreds of NGOs. The COP29 NGO Coalition was established about a month ago at the initiative of the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan. We have already held three hybrid meetings with NGOs from various countries and regions around the world. During these meetings, representatives of foreign NGOs proposed to meet with the COP29 President-Designate and hold discussions. Our negotiations yielded results, and the COP29 President-Designate, Mukhtar Babayev, will hold an online hybrid meeting with members of the COP29 NGO Coalition on September 10th, where he will answer questions and engage in discussions. We have already started informing member organizations about this. There is a high level of interest in the COP29 NGO Coalition, which we did not expect; almost every day, we receive applications from various countries through our office@ngoforum.az email address to join the coalition. This coalition is very effective and serves as an exemplary inclusivity platform, where NGOs from the most diverse regions of the world, including those that have a strong voice at COPs and those that do not have the opportunity to participate, join together in global discussions.”
